The Isle of Wight Model Railway

The Concept

Within the Alton Model Railway Group, there is a group of modellers who share an interest in the Isle of Wight railways. We have been discussing the possibility of , over a long period of time, building a sectional layout representing a significant proportion of the Island's once extensive railway network, as it was in the days of steam.

Each layout would be a separately constructed, self-contained model, capable of exhibition alone or in combination with other layouts.

Chris Gardner and Mark Pretious have started work on Cowes
Rod Lerew will soon be starting on Merstone - Mark has already built some of the buildings
Richard Pretious has yet to turn his mind to Brading
If and when Cowes is completed, Chris will turn his attention first to a compressed representation of Newport and then to Smallbrook Junction, which will make it possible to link to the Brading module.

As you can see, they are early days yet.

Block Plan

Ultimately, this is what we might achieve. A lot could change between now and "completion", and we could be forgiven for feeling faint hearted, because this is an enormous undertaking.
